Increasing the use of Welsh in the workplace is one of our strategic priorities. To support organisations to do this, we have created policy models on the internal use of the Welsh language. The models offer a framework for organisations to develop ambitious and effective policies, helping them to move along the language use continuum – from foundation to innovation. They allow organisations to set clear objectives, measurable and ambitious targets and consider how to incorporate the Welsh language naturally into their work culture.
You can see the policy model pack here.
To support the policy models, we have created a set of resources based on the themes of the internal use policies. Their aim is to offer guidance and ideas to organisations on how to put their internal use policies into action. The three themes are:
Leadership
Strong leadership is important in setting expectations and leading by example to create a positive atmosphere towards the Welsh language within an organisation.
You can find advice on chairing meetings in Welsh here and by Bangor University here.
There are a number of ideas in this Arts Council guide.
Administrative infrastructure
By installing a robust infrastructure with your administration, human resources and technology use, you can facilitate and encourage greater language use and improve confidence in using Welsh in the workplace. The standards require that your internal procedures allow officers to use Welsh when dealing with employment matters. They also require access to technology in Welsh, and technology that supports the use of Welsh.
