Notes
The hyphen is used in Welsh place-names to show that the stress does not fall on the penultimate syllable. The stress falls on the final syllable of Hendy-gwyn and therefore the final syllable is preceded by a hyphen.
As in the case of Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr and Tal-y-bont ar Wysg, when a name is long and already includes hyphens, there is no need for hyphens before and after a preposition that follows the first part of a name. This is also the case for Hendy-gwyn ar Daf.
Hendy-gwyn is also an acceptable standard form.
