The Urdd Eisteddod 2024

The Urdd Eisteddfod is almost here, and we are looking forward to being at Margam Park for the week at Eisteddfod Dur a Môr. We hope to have the opportunity to chat with many of you at our stand.

We will be there from Monday to Saturday. AS well as daily opportunities to speak with us, special activities will be offered by partners, businesses, and charities that have received the Cynnig Cymraeg (Welsh Language Offer).

The Welsh Language Commissioner has a list of standard place names on our website where you can search for the correct spelling and information about the location. In the run-up to the Eisteddfod, keep an eye out for brand-new videos on our social media, introducing some of the place names in the Margam Park area. A new interactive map will be available at our stand for you to place towns and villages in Wales in their correct locations.

At our stand on Monday (May 27), local artist Rhys Padarn, also known as Orielodl, will be ready to create a doodle based on the local area of the Eisteddfod, following Rhys's unique style. This will be a fun session for children aged seven and up. If you cannot attend the session, you will be able to follow a step-by-step video at the stand throughout the week.

The fun continues on Tuesday (May 28) with a talk and song by the Welsh Whisperer. A lively session—come sing and dance, ask a question, or take a selfie with the man himself!

Welsh Air Ambulance has recently received the Cynnig Cymraeg from the Commissioner, recognising how they use Welsh in their important day-to-day work. Why not watch the video or read the blog to learn more about their story? Visit our stand on Wednesday (May 29) to chat with them.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has also received the Cynnig Cymraeg and will host fun family activities at our stand on Thursday. We are very fortunate to have the Wales Federation of Young Farmers Clubs operating bilingually throughout rural Wales. Why not visit our stand to take part in their activities on Friday afternoon (May 30)?

New research announcement

On Friday, May 30, at our stand, Efa Gruffudd Jones, the Welsh Language Commissioner, will announce the results of our new research. Over 1,600 children and young people were asked for their opinions on the opportunities available to increase their use of Welsh in everyday life.

Why not drop by and see for yourself? A warm welcome awaits you at our stand. The full schedule can be found here.
