This form is recommended following consultation with the Local Authority, despite it not being the form recommended in A Gazetteer of Welsh Place-Names (University of Wales Press, 1967).
The hyphen is used in order to aid pronunciation by showing that stress does not fall on the penultimate syllable. However, this name falls into the category of established exceptions, e.g. Caerdydd and Pontypridd.
