Notes
Definite article
The Welsh definite article (y/yr) is not considered to be an integral part of this name and does not precede this name in all contexts. However, its effect can still be seen in Welsh oral and written contexts as the name is not mutated according to the usual patterns of the Welsh language. In order to avoid the need for a mutation in Welsh written contexts, the Welsh definite article (y/yr) may be used to precede the place-name within a sentence, e.g. ‘yn y X’ (in X) or ‘mynd i’r X’ (going to X). There is no need to use the Welsh or English definite article in English contexts.
