The NSPCC is the UK's leading children's charity. They have been supporting children for over 130 years. Making Welsh language support available to the children of Wales is important to the NSPCC.

  • Why is the use of Welsh important to you as an organisation?

By ensuring that our resources and services are available bilingually means that we can reach all children and families in Wales.  The NSPCC Schools Service’s ‘Speak out. Stay safe’ programme is delivered to primary aged children sharing essential messages around abuse and keeping safe.  Children have the right to access this information and receive the service in their preferred language and for many, that language is Welsh.  Without bilingual resources, we would be less likely to be able to access Welsh medium schools, meaning that a whole cohort of children would be missing out on these important messages. By providing bilingual materials for parents, we support families to be able to have all important discussions with their children in their chosen language.

  • What is the benefit to you of receiving the Cynnig Cymraeg recognition?

The Cynnig Cymraeg demonstrates that the NSPCC is committed to the Welsh language and is committed to reaching all children and families in Wales. It shows that we appreciate and embrace the language and cultural differences in Wales. It also shows that we are relevant nationally and locally.

  • Would you encourage others to apply for the Cynnig Cymraeg, and why?

Yes. Having a clear outline of what we offer in Welsh as an organisation demonstrates our commitment to the language and to children and families in Wales. It raises awareness elsewhere in the organisation and beyond. It provides support and context for any bilingual requirements we may have.

This is Meic. Meic is a Schools Service Volunteer and delivers the Speak out. Stay Safe. programme to primary schools in Gwynedd and Anglesey. Without Welsh language resources or Welsh speaking volunteers, we would not be able to reach the majority of schools in this area and a huge number of schools across Wales. By sharing the important messages of speaking out and keeping safe with children in their first language, volunteers like Meic are ensuring that all children in Wales are receiving these essential messages.
